On May 30, 2022, a memorial day ceremony will take place at Cedar View Cemetery, a historic black cemetery in Lincroft, N.J.

Cedar View Cemetery Memorial Day Ceremony

Sponsored by Friends of Cedar View, the ceremony will have a series of events honoring the historic cemetery for freed slaves and African American men and women who proudly served during the Civil War.

The memorial day ceremony will start at 2pm.

Who: Friends of Cedar View Cemetery – Historic Black Cemetery in Lincroft

Where: 60 Hurley’s Lane, Lincroft, NJ, Parking available at St. Leo’s Church

When: Monday, May 30, 2022 at 2pm

Invocation: Pastor Terrence K. Porter, Pilgrim Baptist Church;

• Historic Plaque presentation by Middletown Mayor Tony Perry and Township Committee;

• Short Talk: A brief history of the Cedar View Cemetery by local historian and author Rick Geffken;

• Wreath Laying in memory of the Civil War Colored Troops; and

• Military presentation and 21 Gun Salute by the 3rd NJ Volunteer Infantry.

Cedar View Cemetery is a pan African-American cemetery which was founded on November 14, 1850 in Lincroft, New Jersey. The organization’s mission is to ensure the continued solemnity of this hallowed ground and to bring increased awareness of the cemetery’s unique historical and cultural value to the public.
