Just recently, the Chinese Exchange Students visited the Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Asbury Park New Jersey. During their visit, Mr. Wronko, Social Studies, Read 180, and Achieve 3000 teacher was conducting a session with his students along with the students in Ghana, Noni Khatiti, Jahi Covington, Sagirah Korenteng, Niani Jaza, Nini Julanah, Jozabad Abi-Jaja, and Jaanai Bumpus. Mr. Wronko got word that the Chinese Exchange students were in the building and invited them to a special Ghana session.

GHANA SPECIAL SESSION: CHINESE EXCHANGE STUDENTS

This session was amazing because the Chinese Exchange and Ghana students were thrilled to meet one another. The Chinese students never expected to have a video conference with students from another country while being in the United States. During this special session, the Ghana and Chinese students shared their cultures, interests, and goals in life. In addition, the students in Ghana gave a news broadcast presentation about their country in terms of education, sports, resources, celebrities etc. All the students were amazed about how much they have in common.

The special session brought together three different countries from three different continents, the United States in North America, Ghana in Africa, and China in Asia.

On a personal note I want to thank the Chinese students for their wonderful gifts they gave me which was a work of Chinese art with various masks. The gift could be seen in the picture at Jersey Voices Magazine.

As we share our cultures, we not only learn new things but also see how similar we are in the world. For instance, look at how in this country we were concerned about the students from Thailand trapped in a cave. A large number of people prayed for the students safe return to their families.

That story had a happy ending as we all were relieved that none of them died.
