2017-2018 Project Ghana: First Session Remembering 9/11/01

Mr. Wronko and his College and Career Ready students gave a 9/11 presentation for the students in Ghana.

Mr. Wronko and his College and Career Ready students gave a 9/11 presentation for the students in Ghana. During this presentation, Mr. Wronko informed all students that on this tragic day in history, terrorists hijacked airplanes that crashed and destroyed the World Trade Center and part of the Pentagon. However, he also informed that even though the day ended in tragedy there was hope because on Flight 93 the passengers fought back the terrorists by preventing the plane from hitting perhaps the White House or Capital Hill. In addition, Mr. Wronko with the help of his students showed a picture book of the events of 9/11. One picture had the firefighters raising the American Flag. This picture was compared to the raising of the American Flag at Iwo Jima. Because at both events the raising of the flag showed that the United States did not die or surrender.

Furthermore, Mr. Wronko shared with all the students that his brother’s secretary was in the North Tower of the World Trade Center. She was just below the impact of the first plane hit. When the plane hit the tower, the force of the explosion threw her out of her chair. Lucky for her, she brought running sneakers that day. She put on her running sneakers and got out of the building. Besides the secretary, Vice Principal of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, Mrs. Del Orbe, informed the students that her fiancée was in the South Tower at the time of impact. He was fortunate enough to also get out before the building collapsed.

It was also brought up that this day was avenged by President Barack Obama when he ordered for the Navy Seals to take out the mastermind behind this tragic event, Osama Bin Laden. After the presentations the students in Ghana made comments regarding this event such as that they could not believe that people could be that bad and carry out an event like this. In addition, they asked numerous questions regarding Mr. Wronko’s brother’s secretary and Mrs. Del Orbe’s husband.
