Body cameras implemented by Asbury Park police department
The Asbury Park Police Department is now deploying the use of Body Worn Cameras (BWC) by uniformed Patrol Officers.
Asbury Park, NJ – Acting Chief Anthony Salerno has announced that the Asbury Park Police Department is now deploying the use of Body Worn Cameras (BWC) by uniformed Patrol Officers.

The roll-out of the BWC’s started July 15, 2016 and it is expected to be completed by August 1, 2016. The Department Policy has been written and distributed to assigned officer and supervisor training.
The APPD policy is in accordance with the Attorney General Guidelines (AGG) and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office policy and directive.
The Asbury Park Police policy includes the BWC use, video storage and retrieval, and fully describes the officer and supervisor’s responsibilities with respect to BWC’s. Video from these cameras may be used in accordance with policy for criminal, civil and administrative proceedings.
Since BWC’s are not yet the standard police issue for all police departments throughout the State, this release is intended to notify and educate the public that video recording, using BWC’s has been officially implemented by the Asbury Park Police Department.
