Long Branch Suspends 8 Officers

Eight of Long Branch police officers have been suspended following an investigation

Long Branch, NJ – Eight of the city’s police officers have been suspended following an investigation that shows they were sitting idle in their cruisers longer than they should have.

Long Branch Director of Public Safety Jason Roebuck said he received a letter in late November bringing the matter to his attention and an investigation was launched. Roebuck said the letter stated many things that ended up being untrue.

“They were not driving for a limo service, as alleged,” Roebuck said. “And, they were not sleeping in their cars.”

However, what was true is that the eight officers we sitting idle in their cars when they should have been out patrolling.

“I’m not sure what they were doing during that time, but they should have been on patrol,” he said.

The eight officers all work the department’s midnight shift, which runs from 11 p.m.-7 a.m. Their suspensions will be swayed so the night shift is not completely disrupted.

Roebuck said the length of each officer’s suspension is varied and that the officers learned of their penalties about two weeks ago.
