Gilda Rogers of Frank Talk Multi-Media Network, cultural critic and historian, along with Candace Kelley (founder of Curl Prep Natural Hair Solutions) a line of hair care products sold in Whole Foods, will lead a discussion titled: “Getting to the Root: Exploring Black Hair & Cultural Attitudes on Sun. Sept. 21 at Porta Restaurant 911 Kingsley St. Asbury Park. The natural hair movement is huge with Black women opting out of chemical relaxers and wearing their hair natural, as we did when we made a statement back in the 60’s and 70’s.
However, this time around it has become a lifestyle change today and acceptance of authenticity. Many women who are going NATURAL today, unlike back-in-the day have adopted a healthier way of life in their diet and are taking better care of themselves. There will also be a series of Ebony Magazines (framed) on display the oldest one dates back to 1947 through the ’60’s.
