Lou Parisi, World War II veteran, Alfonso Freda, Korean War veteran, and Wilbur V. Martin, Vietnam veteran, came to the filming of the Ghana session for Classroom Close-up. Even though this was a television taping, it was also a celebration for Memorial Day. Each veteran was thrilled to be a part of not only remembering those who served but also sharing their experience to the television audience of Classroom Close-up. Every veteran spoke about their service in the military. They mentioned how it was a honor to serve. In addition, the veterans spoke about the difficulties they had to endure to help preserve the freedom for the United States of America.

After the veterans spoke, the students in Ghana and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School asked them numerous questions. Some questions were:

Did you have friends in the military and did they survive?

Were you a part of any major conflicts that turned the tide of the war in which you served?

How long did you serve in the military?

If you did it all over again, would you serve in the military?

After the veterans answered the students questions, they gave a big thanks to Mr. Wronko, Unheard Voices Magazine, and Classroom Close-up for allowing them to share their experiences.

History was made for this Memorial Day celebration because it was the first time not only did the veterans speak to students from the middle school and Ghana but also a future television audience.
