A State Police trooper and Mercer County sheriff’s officer shot the teen in the back of the legs and buttocks Friday night. Authorities said witnesses reported seeing the teen reach for his waistband, authorities said.
NJ.com reports, a .22-caliber handgun loaded with three bullets was recovered Saturday, about 12 hours after the shooting, under a car near where the teen collapsed, authorities said.
The Attorney General’s Office, which oversees the State Police and is heading the investigation into Friday’s shooting, declined to name the officers Tuesday or say how many rounds each had fired at the teen.
Both officers have been placed on a routine administrative leave.
