It’s time for many communities to start burying the violence.

You may hear about the ongoing gang and violence problems in Chicago. Its murders are nationally reported, but many other cities are facing the same problem; Newark, NJ is one of them.

The Brick City has reached its 78th murder this week; 72 around this time last year. About a month ago, Newark seen 10 murders in 10 days, with authorities calling it the bloodiest and dangerous week they have ever seen.

The influx of gangs, drugs, and violence leaves community members and organizations desperate for solutions for a safer city.

In response to the unrelenting violence taking place daily in Newark, a coalition of community-based organizations, community leaders, funeral homes, and local small businesses was formed to bring every neighborhood together at one time to bury the violence with a mock funeral called “The Funeral to Bury Violence in Newark” (The Funeral).

On October 27, 2013, 211 Community Impact, along with community-based organizations and funeral homes will hold a public funeral that will focus on ending the senseless violence that continues to plague the city of Newark.

“The Funeral to Bury Violence In Newark” will magnify the impact that violence and killings have on the local residents—and the community want to stand together in support, healing and renewal for the city of Newark.
