Seaside Heights, NJ – Taxpayers will be responsible for $420,000 of Jersey Shore production costs since the show’s start in 2009, under a tax credit approved by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority.

The approval was among the first round of film tax credits awarded by the EDA since 2010, when Governor Chris Christie suspended the program to close the budget deficit.

Residents and lawmakers are criticizing the tax incentive program in disbelief that money will go to support the show.

However, Seaside Heights Mayor P. Kenneth Hershey said the state investment pays local dividends, which is the goal of the tax credit.

“The boost to the economy certainly shows, when they are here this place is busy,” said Hershey.

Since ‘Jersey Shore’ revenue has went up 20 percent in Seaside Heights compared to surrounding area beaches.
