Long Branch, NJ – Last Wednesday, November 3rd, Long Branch community Pop Warner football coaches and J.J. Hoops sponsored a trip to send parents and kids to see the New Jersey Nets basketball game.

Long Branch Community Pulls Together

Howie Coleman and John Rogers organized the trip to help player, 6 year-old Jameire Covin, after learning from his parents that he couldn’t complete the Pop Warner football season due to an illness.

The New Jersey Nets allowed Jameire and his teammates to participate in on-court, pre-game halftime, and post game activities.

Covin suffers from aplastic anemia – a rare blood disorder in which the body’s bone marrow doesn’t produce enough new red and white blood cells and platelets.

A serious disorder that, without proper, ongoing treatment, can lead to death in severe cases, aplastic anemia is treated through medication, blood transfusions and blood and marrow stem cell transplants.

Right now, Covin is on a transplant waiting list as the search for a suitable marrow donor match continues.

Besides the trip, J.J. Hoops will be setting up a donor drive Dec. 4 and 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Adam Bucky James Community Center, 231 Wilbur Ray Blvd.

For more information about the donor drive, contact Mr. John Rogers at 732-997-8366

A special thanks to Long Branch community members Jim Sinner, Leah Taylor Hicks, and Christa-Covin Robinson for photos and information.
