Police are warning parents to be on alert after a man in his late 50s attempted to lure three boys into his vehicle Sunday morning, police said.

Three boys, ages 10 to 13, told police they were approached by a man in the area of Lambs Lane, Manalapan police Chief Christopher Marsala said in a post on the department’s Facebook page.

“The male subject attempted to lure the boys to his vehicle under the guise of helping him search for a missing cat,” Marsala said.

The vehicle was a four-door silver sedan with New Jersey license plates, he said.

The boys ran away immediately, Marsala said, and did not have any further contact with the man.

Marsala described the man as a white male in his late 50s, with brown and gray shoulder length hair. He has a mustache and bags under his eyes, Marsala said.
