Jerett Sanderson : Former Bowling Green Safety/Corner Standout Intends To Tryout For Philadelphia Soul

Unheard Voices met up with Jerett Sanderson who will be trying out for the Philadelphia Soul Professional Arena football team on Saturday January 18th. Jerett is a young man that is ready to take on this challenging task. Jerett played the position of safety/corner at Bowling Green University , a position that defends against the run and pass .

Jerett tells Unheard Voices a cornerback is also referred to as a corner and is a member of the defensive backfield or secondary. He likes playing because he gets the chance to show his skills of covering receivers, to defend against pass the offenses and make tackles. The 4.41 speed and his agility makes Jerett Sanderson natural for this position. He is able to show off his ability to anticipate the quarterback, by back-pedaling, and executing single zone coverage, disrupting pass routes, shedding blockers, and tackling. And tackling and hitting is something Jerett loves to do.

A Bowling Green University graduate, Sanderson was known as the best safety/corner at his position. He started all four years at his position. After graduating from Bowling with a degree in personal communication and sociology, he now uses those skills as he works as a professional athletic trainer, track coach for both Long Branch and Red Bank Regional high school and still finds the time to chase his dream. Jerett Sanderson played professional Arena for two years with the Pittsburgh Powers and West Virginia S&M.

Sanderson tells Unheard Voices that he first started playing football as a kid in the pop warner league and played corner and safety. He said that it was something that just came natural to him. The one thing about a corner/safety is they have to have the speed in order to make the play and Sanderson definitely possessed the speed clocking 4.41 in the 40 is not too shabby.

Sanderson says by playing safety/corner “you have the joy of catching the ball but tackling and hitting people too.” He says that his family is very excited for him to be having this opportunity because they know how much he enjoys playing. When asked about who inspires him athletically he mentions Ed Reed from the Baltimore Raven’s who also plays safety, Coby Bryant determination and work ethnics, Will Smith’s dedication to his acting and Eric Thomas who is Renown speaker, educator, author, activist and minister and a former professional football player. Not a bad list of people at all!

Jerett says religion plays an important role and he has faith in God to guide him in the right way. Going to church on Sunday is a daily routine for Jerett. He says he tries not to miss a Sunday.

Jerett thanked Unheard Voices to be able to speak up and be heard. We wish Jerett all the best of luck during his tryouts with the Philadelphia Soul. Go get it Jerett! For information about being personally trained by Jerett Sanderson, he can be reach on Facebook.
